How to share a family recipe and shop it in one tap

Share a family recipe by keeping it as a view-only shared list: ingredients as items, steps in a recipe panel, and one tap to put the ingredients on any grocery list. No more text threads, photos of a card, or one person's memory: "make Grandma's pasta this week" turns into a shopping list in one tap.

The setup

  1. Make it a recipe list
Create a list in MyListResort and pick Recipe. The ingredients are the list items, so add them the way you would groceries: quantities with real units like 2 lbs or 1 1/2 cups, plus prep notes like softened, with the same name suggestions.
  2. Write the steps
Open the recipe panel and write the method: numbered steps you can reorder, plus serves, time, and where the recipe comes from.
  3. Share it with the family
Send an invite code like any list. Everyone you invite joins view-only: they can read the recipe and use it, and only you can change it.
  4. They shop it in one tap
Anyone the recipe is shared with can add its ingredients to their own grocery list, picking a half, single, double, or triple batch so the quantities land already multiplied for that trip. Everything arrives together under a category named after the recipe, so the shopping trip stays organized and the extras stay attributed.
  5. Cook and repeat
The recipe stays put. Next time it is one tap back onto the grocery list, and adding it again never doubles what is already there from the recipe.

Why a recipe is a list

A recipe is two things: ingredients you need to buy, and steps you need to follow. In MyListResort the ingredients ARE list items, so everything a grocery list already does works on them: quantities, notes, name suggestions, real-time sync. The steps live on the same list in a recipe panel. Nothing new to learn, and no separate recipe app to keep in sync with your shopping.

Shared without being editable

Sharing a recipe should not mean surrendering it. Everyone you invite joins view-only: the daughter who wants Mom's pasta can read every step and put the ingredients on her own grocery list, and the recipe stays exactly as Mom wrote it. She can also save her own copy to tweak; the original never changes. Co-writing is a deliberate choice, not an accident: promote someone to a member and you edit it together, live.

FAQ

Can someone I share a recipe with change it?

Not by default. Recipe invites join as view-only: they can read it and add the ingredients to their own lists, but the recipe stays yours. If you want to write one together, promote them to a member in the list settings; an editable share counts toward your plan's shared lists like any other.

What happens to my existing grocery list when I add a recipe?

Nothing is touched. The recipe ingredients arrive under their own category named after the recipe, so your aisles stay yours and you can see exactly what the recipe added. If milk is already on your list, the recipe still adds its own milk: you need enough for the recipe.

Does it scale quantities when I change servings?

Not from the serves number, which stays a note on the recipe. When you add the ingredients to a grocery list you can pick a half, single, double, or triple batch and the quantities multiply for that trip. The recipe itself always keeps its written amounts.

Do recipe ingredients get freshness tracking?

Yes, where it applies. Ingredients we recognize from the USDA food data keep that link when they land on a grocery list, so marking the salsa opened later starts an estimated quality window based on general storage guidance. That part is MyListResort's home turf.

Is it free?

The current Free plan includes 3 recipe and guide lists on top of 3 regular lists, and a shared recipe can have up to 4 people on it, you included. Adding a recipe to a grocery list is currently included.
