How to build a home maintenance schedule that sticks
The fix for home upkeep is boring and effective: put every recurring task on one shared list with its own interval, split the work, and use the list as a prompt. Because the usual way fails the same way every time: the schedule lives in one person's head, and that person is busy.
This is an organization tool, not an inspection or professional maintenance service. Follow manufacturer instructions, codes, recall notices, and qualified professional advice. Do not rely on an app reminder for fire, carbon monoxide, vehicle, or other safety-critical work.
The setup
- Make a maintenance listCreate a list in MyListResort and pick Maintenance / Upkeep. Choose starter templates like Home, Auto, Lawn and yard, or Cleaning (mix and match) and the list opens pre-filled with categories, common tasks, and editable starting intervals.
- Tune the intervals and add your own tasksThe starter tasks include example intervals. Check the manufacturer’s instructions or a qualified professional, adjust every interval for your equipment and conditions, delete what does not apply, and add the tasks unique to your home.
- Share it with the householdInvite whoever shares the work. Everyone sees the same list live, and tasks can be assigned to a specific person so nothing is everybody’s job (which means nobody’s job).
- Check it off and let it come backDone the filter? Check it off. The app schedules its next due date from the interval you set instead of removing the task permanently.
- Turn on convenience remindersWith reminders enabled, the app can send a heads-up when something comes due. Notifications can be delayed or missed, so do not rely on them for safety-critical maintenance.

A spreadsheet tracks dates; it doesn't tell anyone anything. Do I have to type in every task myself?

How often should I change my air filter?
Requirements vary by filter, equipment, home, use, air quality, pets, and health needs. Follow the filter and equipment manufacturer’s instructions or ask a qualified HVAC professional, then enter that interval in the app.
Can I split maintenance tasks between people?
Yes. Tasks can be assigned, so the oil change is on one person and the filters on another, and everyone can see the whole picture on the shared list.
Is the maintenance list free?
The current Free tier includes the list, intervals, templates, sharing, assignments, and due-date reminders without a maintenance-task cap.
