How to plan a party with a shared shopping list
Plan a party with one shared, categorized list: everyone sees it, every item has an owner, and the gaps are obvious before the day, not on it. That is the upgrade from where party planning usually lives: a group chat, three screenshots, and one stressed person's memory.
The setup
- Make an event listCreate a list in MyListResort and pick Shopping & Events. The Party template sets up the four buckets every event needs: Food & Drink, Decorations, Supplies, and Activities.
- Brain-dump everythingGet every item out of your head and into a category: the cake, the candles, the folding chairs, the playlist. A categorized list beats one long scroll because gaps are visible per bucket.
- Date the time-critical itemsItems can carry a done-by date: switch on due-by tracking in the list settings, then date the time-critical items so you can see what is still outstanding as the day approaches.
- Share it with the helpersInvite whoever is helping. Everyone sees the same list live, and items can be assigned so the drinks run and the decorations have exactly one owner each.
- Shop and check off together, liveTwo people at two stores see each other check items off in real time, so nothing gets bought twice and the one critical item does not slip through.
Categories beat one long list
A fifty-item scroll hides its gaps. Four buckets show them: if Decorations has two items and Food & Drink has twenty, you can see the imbalance at a glance. That per-bucket view is also what makes delegating painless: hand a whole category to a helper and it is obvious what they own.
One list per occasion
Event lists in MyListResort are deliberately one-off: the birthday, the camping trip, the gift exchange each get their own list with its own helpers and its own dated items. When the occasion is over, the list is a record of what worked, ready to copy the idea from next year. Your groceries and chores stay on their own lists, uncluttered.

What should a party planning checklist include?
Work the four buckets: Food & Drink (menu, cake, ice), Decorations (theme pieces, balloons, signage), Supplies (plates, cups, chairs, batteries), and Activities (games, music, prizes). The Party template starts you with exactly these categories, all editable.
Can several people work the same event list?
Yes. Share the list and every helper adds and checks off in real time. Items can be assigned to a specific person so ownership is explicit.
Does it work for camping trips and gift exchanges too?
Yes.
