How to run household projects on a kanban board

A household kanban board is a shared progress board: columns for stages, cards for tasks, drag as things move, no work tool required. Households have the same problem work solved years ago (a renovation, a garage sale, a wedding) without wanting the logins or the standup. A progress board is the useful half of kanban, shared with the people who actually live with you.

The setup

Make a progress board

Create a list in MyListResort and pick Progress board, then a column layout: Simple (To Do / Doing / Done), Classic (adds a Blocked column), Project (adds a Backlog), or Chores (To Do / This week / Done). Planning something big? The Moving, Wedding, and Event planning layouts open with starter cards already in place. One layout per board; pick what fits the work.
Add the work as cards

Every task is a card in a column. Big project? Break it into cards small enough that one person can move one card to Done in one sitting.
Drag as things move

Drag a card to the next column as work happens. The board is the status meeting: anyone can see what is up next, what is in flight, and what is finished.
The last column completes it

Dropping a card in the final column checks it off, same as ticking a list item. No separate done state to manage.
Give cards owners

Assign cards to people and add labels to group related work. On a shared board, ownership on the card beats ownership in someone’s memory.

The board is the status meeting

The point of columns is that nobody has to ask. What is next, what is stuck, and what is finished are visible on every phone in the household, live. When two people move cards at once, both see it happen: the board is one shared surface, not copies that drift apart.

Chores are the special case

A chore board has rules a project board does not: eligible household members age 13+ using their own accounts should complete only assigned cards, while an adult manages and records chores for younger children.
