Food & Safety Notice

Effective: July 27, 2026 · Terms version 2026-07-27

This notice applies whenever you use freshness, date, barcode, recipe, or reminder features. It supplements our Terms & Conditions. You decide what to store, prepare, serve, or consume.

What the estimates mean

An estimated freshness window is a general storage range based in part on public food-storage guidance. It describes expected quality under assumed conditions. It is not an individualized assessment of the food in your home and does not mean the food is safe until a countdown ends, or unsafe immediately afterward.

What the Service cannot observe

Actual safety can be affected by contamination, allergens, recalls, source, packaging, initial condition, refrigerator or freezer temperature, time outside safe temperatures, power loss, cross-contamination, handling, preparation, and the health of the person eating the food. Dates you enter can also be incomplete or wrong. The Service has no sensor or inspection access to these conditions.

Harmful bacteria may not change how food looks, smells, or tastes. Appearance, smell, and taste therefore cannot establish that food is safe, and you should not taste food to test its safety.

What to follow instead

  • Follow package, manufacturer, and retailer storage and preparation instructions.
  • Check current government and manufacturer recall notices.
  • Use a refrigerator and food thermometer where official guidance calls for one.
  • Follow advice from a qualified health professional for allergies, pregnancy, immune compromise, clinical diets, and other individual health risks.
  • If food safety is uncertain, do not consume or serve the food.

The U.S. government publishes current resources through FoodSafety.gov, the USDA recall list, and FDA recalls and safety alerts.

Special cases

Do not use MyListResort to decide whether to use infant formula after its labeled use-by date. Do not use the Service for allergy protection, medication, medical or clinical decisions, emergency planning, or any time-critical health or safety purpose. Official instructions and recalls always control over an app estimate.

Barcodes, recipes, and outside data

Barcode records and imported recipes come from third parties and may be crowd-sourced, mislabeled, incomplete, stale, or matched to the wrong product. Scanning a code does not verify ingredients, allergens, nutrition, lot numbers, recalls, storage history, or product condition. Review the physical label and authoritative source before acting.

Reminders are best effort

Notifications depend on your dates, device, browser, operating system, network, permissions, and our providers. They may be late, duplicated, suppressed, or never delivered. Never rely on a notification as your only food-safety control.

Responsibility and limits

To the maximum extent permitted by law, you assume the risks of storage, preparation, consumption, disposal, and reliance on (or failure to receive) Service information. The warranty disclaimers, liability exclusions, and aggregate cap in Sections 18 and 19 of our Terms apply. Those provisions do not limit rights or liabilities that applicable law does not permit us to limit.
